About Kindling

Kindling is a teacher-owned studio making simple web tools for primary maths and early reading. Built for short practice, easy to share, and free to use.

What is Kindling?

Kindling makes small, focused tools that help children practise key skills without extra setup. They work in the browser, they are quick to get going, and they fit easily into home routines or classroom time.

Why we make these

Good practice is often short, regular, and clear. Kindling tools are designed to support that, with settings that help adults choose the right level and the right format without turning it into a big project.

These tools are free in the browser with no accounts or subscriptions, so schools and families can use them straight away and share them easily.

Our tools

Two tools are available now:

Times Tables Check Covers tables 0–12 with single-table and mixed practice, plus missing-number questions. Includes an optional check mode that follows the format of the English statutory Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC).

KS1 Phonics Screening Check Real words and made-up words (pseudo-words) for practice with the Year 1 phonics screening check format in England. Children can work through sets at their own pace.

More tools are in progress, and they’ll follow the same approach: simple, browser-based, and free to use.
